Heat Warnings – Reminders & Tips

Hello leaders! As temperatures becoming increasingly hot, here are some tips that the American Red Cross has highlighted with their Extreme Heat Warnings today:

# 1 – STAY HYDRATED:

  • The Red Cross recommends drinking 1 cup of water every 20 minutes. Avoid sugary and caffeinated drinks.
  • Check your urine color – dark yellow means you need to drink more water.
  • We have provided Liquid IV packets to each operations team in Energy, Agronomy and the Farm Stores. Encourage your employees to incorporate one packet of these in their water bottles each shift. They should alternate between these types of electrolyte supplements and water.

# 2 – STAY COOL

  • Ensure you and your team are taking breaks, whether that’s to step into an air-conditioned area or a shaded area outside. Use that time to cool down and hydrate.
  • Avoid rushing, not only is rushing a state of mind that can lead to being unsafe, but it can also cause someone to over-heat.

# 3 – STAY CONNECTED

  • Check in on your team – Whether it’s stepping into the warehouse/shop or giving them a quick call while they are out in the field or on the road, check in just to see how they are doing.
